Bali Flight

But before all that fun, one thing matters: your backpack. After many trips to Bali and packing mistakes, Flighys helped me find what I really need to bring.

London City

Choosing the Perfect Backpack for Tropical Travel

My travel sidekick is a 40L soft shell backpack  roomy for a month or more, but still small enough to carry without tipping over like a turtle. Why I love it:

  • It opens like a suitcase
  • Lightweight and water resistant
  • Has a laptop sleeve and secret pockets

Essential Documents and Travel Information

These live in the top pouch  easy access = less stress:

  • Passport and printed/digital copies
  • My e visa or entry proof
  • Travel insurance
  • A bit of Indonesian rupiah for your first cab or coconut
  • Debit/credit cards (pro tip: bring a backup)
  • International driver's license if you're riding a scooter

And yes, I keep a small pouch of printed bookings and emergency contacts because the internet fails at the worst times.

Tropical Clothing Essentials: Light and Breathable

Bali is hot, humid, and not the place for jeans or anything tight and grumpy. Here's what I actually wore:

  • 4 loose, breathable tops
  • 2 to 3 skirts, shorts, or wide leg pants
  • One temple appropriate outfit (shoulders and knees covered)
  • Light sweater for chilly cafés or long flights
  • Swimsuits  honestly, bring a couple
  • Sarong (ultimate multitasker  towel, beach blanket, skirt, you name it)
  • Flip flops and 1 pair of sandals you can walk in for hours

You'll spend half your time barefoot anyway.

Technology for Island Adventures

I try to pack light with electronics, but these make travel smoother:

  • Phone and charger
  • Universal adapter  Indonesia uses type C/F plugs
  • Power bank
  • Noise canceling earbuds
  • Tripod or gimbal as Bali is just so photogenic
  • Laptop

Toiletries and Personal Care for Tropical Climate

You can buy most stuff in Bali, but here's what I always bring:

  • Travel size shampoo, conditioner, face wash
  • Sunscreen  the Bali sun is not shy
  • Bug spray
  • Basic makeup and skincare
  • Reusable razor, mini nail kit, and period supplies if needed
  • Hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and a few hydration sachets

Oh, and lip balm. Bali air can dry you out.

Snacks and Comfort Items for Long Stays

Sometimes you just want a little bite of home or something to keep your energy up between beach naps:

  • 2 to 3 protein bars
  • A couple of tea bags
  • Electrolyte tablets  essential after long, sweaty days
  • A reusable water bottle
  • My little spork
  • One tiny Tupperware  honestly, so useful

Bonus Items That Enhanced My Bali Experience

These might sound small, but they came through big time:

  • Dry bag  great for boat trips, beach days, or waterfalls
  • Daypack or woven tote for exploring
  • Travel towel
  • A tiny laundry kit  hand washing in the sink is very Bali core
  • A journal  Bali has a way of opening you up

Final Packing Philosophy: Travel Light, Feel Free

The best part about packing for Bali? Flighys says you don’t need much. The air is warm, your skin will tan, and shoes aren’t always needed. Pack simply, save space for gifts, and let Bali do the rest. Seriously  once you're there, the only thing you'll wish you had…is more time.
